For those who follow show business, you’ve probably heard of Matthew Lewis. Born and raised in Leeds, and a long-term Leeds Rhinos fan, Matt broke into acting at the turn of the century with his role as wizard Neville Longbottom in the acclaimed Harry Potter cinematic franchise, delivering a vital performance in multiple films between 2001 and 2011. Since then, he’s appeared in numerous television series including The Syndicate, Ripper Street, Happy Valley and Bluestone 42. Recently, he’s stepped back onto the big screen with the romantic piece Me Before You. I travelled down to Matt’s house in London to do something a bit different to the normal press routine he faces on a regular basis. Professionals can often switch onto auto-pilot when faced with repetitive interviews. Over a cup of tea in his back garden, we spoke about his background, what makes him tick, his affinity for rugby league and how he approaches his career as an actor. He gave some engaging answers and also painted a picture of what goes on away from the camera in the world of film and television.
I hope you enjoy Part 1. This was an in depth interview. We enjoyed chatting and covering different topics, importantly from different perspectives.
